Some well-know and little-know facts about our community:
Milwaukie, Oregon, is named after Milwaukee, Wisconsin by one of the first pioneers to settle in this area, Lot Whitcomb, who arrived in 1848. Whitcomb built a sawmill and a gristmill, providing lumber and flour to the California gold fields. In 1851 he launched a stern wheel steamship, the Lot Whitcomb.
In 1851, Milwaukie became a “Port of Delivery” by Congressional Appointment.
The city of Milwaukie was incorporated as a city in 1903.
